Recently, the Queen's University Solar Vehicle Team revealed Aurum, the 11th car in the Team's history. Following their race in Australia this past October, where they placed 14th in the Panasonic World Solar Challenge, the team put their energy into improving many of the vehicle systems initiated in Australia. The progress of the Queen's Solar Car team in Australia was covered by the Discovery Channel.
The team is now on their way to Texas, the starting location of their next race, The North American Solar Challenge. The rayce begins on July 13 with 26 teams from around the world taking part in the 3800 kilometre journey. When asked about the upcoming rayce, Nate Preston, Project Manager of the Solar Car project said "We hope to prove once again why we are considered by many to be a premier team in the sport of solar vehicle raycing, as we create meaningful solutions to our society's imminent energy crisis and demonstrate the viability of renewable energy sources."
In July 2005 Ultraviolet, the 10th Queen's University Solar Car, completed the North American Solar Challenge and was the first-placed two-seater vehicle, and 15th overall in the 10-day rayce. The Queen's Solar Vehicle Team was also awarded the "Never Give Up" Award.
We wish the Solar Car Team the best in the Rayce!
