Environment Retrofit for the Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Kingston was founded in 1988. In 1999, the club purchased the Robert Meek School to use as its headquarters. Their mission statement is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life. To reach these goals, the club has founded a variety of programs including both afterschool and summer camps for youth. The Robert Meek School was built in the 1920s and due to its age, the Boys & Girls Club building is expensive to operate. A sustainability study has been done to retrofit the building, however green, simple methods of reducing environmental impact have not been covered. The purpose of this project is to determine a cost effective way to reduce the utilities bill of the Boys & Girls Club.
